Rahul Ghandi : A British Citizen???

The Lok Sabha Ethics Committee has sent a notice to Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi seeking his reply to allegations that he held British citizenship.

In response to questions from reporters at Parliament House, Rahul said,
“We will deal with it.”

In a statement, AICC media in-charge Randeep Surjewala said, “Shri Rahul Gandhi has since his birth been an Indian citizen. He has never applied for or acquired the citizenship of any other country. Shri Gandhi will reply to the notice of complaint of ethical misconduct in conformity with Parliamentary procedure and we shall not comment upon it in the media.”

He described the repeated questions raised outside Parliament by BJP leaders about Rahul’s citizenship as “political vendetta”. “The facts in this matter can easily be verified by the government of the day. This campaign of the BJP leadership is mala fide and defamatory,” Surjewala said.

Sri Sri Ravi Shankar said "Pakistan Zindabad"?????

New Delhi, March 13: Sri Sri Ravi Shankar’s grand World Culture Festival that is taking place at the banks of the Yamuna, might have gone on despite the huge controversy about environmental damage, but it is now set to fall into another controversy.

On Saturday, the festival witnessed a unique scene, when the slogans of ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ were shouted on the same podium where Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh was also seated. However, they were soon followed by slogans of ‘Jai Hind’.

But in reality, After the Islamic scholar finished his speech, Mr. Shankar said that Pakistan too has been hit by terrorism, and that India and Pakistan should progress together.
“Jai Hind and Pakistan Zindabad should go together. It should be a win-win situation for both sides. We should focus on winning and making the other also win,” said Mr. Shankar.
His statement comes at a time when India is seeing a debate on nationalism, which was triggered by an event at Jawaharlal Nehru University in February where students allegedly raised pro-Pakistan slogans.

Indian Dalit boy killed in the name of 'Honour killing'

CCTV footage broadcast on Indian television channels showed the couple walking on a busy street when they were attacked
A man from India's Dalit community has been hacked to death on a crowded road in a suspected honour killing in the southern state of Tamil Nadu.
Police say Sankar, 22, was murdered for marrying a woman from a higher caste. She was injured in the assault.
Her father handed himself in and admitted to carrying out the attack on a busy road in daylight, police said.
Dalits, formerly known as untouchables, form the lowest rung of India's caste hierarchy.
Sankar's marriage had been opposed by his wife Kausalya's family, who belong to a higher, more influential caste.
The victim's brother told to media that  "Some months ago, Kausalya's family threatened us and afterwards, her parents and relatives came home and asked my sister-in-law to return with them. She refused," the brother Vigneswaran, who uses only one name, said.
Kausalya's father China Swamy later gave himself up in a magistrate's court, police said.
"He has told the court that he takes responsibility for the death of Sankar as well as the attack on his daughter," he added.
Sankar's family have refused to take the body from the hospital until all the attackers are arrested.
CCTV footage broadcast on Indian television channels showed the couple walking on a busy street in Udumalpet town, in Tirupur district, when they were attacked by three men armed with sharp weapons.
People watched in horror as the attackers then fled on a motorcycle.

The young man died on the way to the hospital, while his wife is recovering from the attack.
Photographs of her seated on her hospital bed have gone viral on social media.
The Dalit community in the town are protesting over the incident, our correspondent says.
According to one study, hundreds of people are killed each year in India for falling in love or marrying against their families' wishes.
In 2011, the Supreme Court said that people convicted of honour killings should face the death penalty.

JNU Revokes Suspension Of Kanhaiya Kumar, 7 Others Over Afzal Guru Event

NEW DELHI:  The Jawaharlal Nehru University today revoked the academic suspension of eight students including its students' union president Kanhaiya Kumar in connection with the controversial event at its campus to protest the hanging of Afzal Guru.

The suspension was revoked after a high-level committee of the university probing the issue submitted its report to JNU authorities.

The university, however, clarified that it does not signify a "clean chit" to the students and that the final decision will be taken after examination of the report by the Vice Chancellor.

The five-member panel was constituted on February 10 by the university, a day after an event to protest the hanging of the Parliament attack convict on his third death anniversary was held during which anti-national slogans were allegedly raised. The eight students were suspended on February 12.

On the basis of a preliminary report by the panel, the university had debarred the eight students from academic activity while allowing them to stay as guests in hostels till the inquiry proceedings were over.

"The High-Level Inquiry Committee (HLIC) constituted by the Vice Chancellor to investigate the February 9 incident that took place in JNU Campus, has submitted its report. The report is under consideration by the JNU Administration," a senior university official told PTI.

"Since the enquiry is over, their suspension has been revoked. The suspended students can now resume their classes and academic activities. However, it should not be seen as a clean-chit, the decision about punishment if any or for whom will be taken after the university administration has deliberated upon the recommendations of the committee," he added.

The committee has faced a series of hiccups since its constitution. While the university's proctorial committee was first given the task to probe the issue, a day later it was replaced by a high-level committee.

The committee initially had three members but under pressure from teachers and students for broadening its scope, the university had added two more members to the panel.

The panel, which was granted three extensions before it finally submitted its report, also faced a challenge with the students refusing to depose before it demanding that the enquiry be constituted afresh.

The university, however, turned down the demand and maintained that the students will be given three chances to appear before the disciplinary committee and if they fail to do so the committee will finalise its recommendations on the basis of the evidence, eyewitness accounts, students' deposition (if any) and material available on hand.

Besides Mr Kumar, the eight suspended students included Umar Khalid, Anirban Bhattacharya, Ashutosh, Rama Naga, Anant Kumar, Shweta Raj and Aishwarya Adhikari.

While Mr Kumar was granted bail in a sedition case over the event last week, Umar Khalid and Anirban Bhattacharya are still in custody.

Anti-national slogans at JNU is a serious matter: RSS

RSS on Sunday described as a “serious matter” the raising of anti-national slogans in JNU and said the law should take its course without the matter being politicised.

The organisation also slammed Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad for comparing it with dreaded terrorist outfit ISIS, saying it exposes his “lack of knowledge” and “intellectual bankruptcy”.

On the issue of anti-national slogans raised in JNU, RSS general secretary Suresh Bhayyaji Joshi said it was a “serious matter for all patriotic citizens” and it should not be politicised.

“Law will take its own course but who allowed this environment to grow in universities? If such universities become the centers of anti-national activities, it is a matter of grave concern and not that of politics,” he said. He questioned that whether any political party, which comes to power, can change its stand or role in reference to Pakistan.

“The thought which takes care of integrity and security of the country should be considered best in the interest of the nation. The reaction against the incident came from all over the country and it is welcoming. It shows that the society is aware,” said Joshi while addressing a press conference at the end of a three-day conclave of the organisation’s highest decision-making body.
